- Just because some matter is being talked about here doesn't mean it's inevitable.
- Just because we're not talking about it yet doesn't mean it can't happen either.

Finals qualification - I think it should stay the same but perhaps there could be some wriggle room in the bottom grade. It just opens up a can of worms...
ReplyDeleteThanks Mark.
DeleteThe terms are probably right but is the meaning clear?
The can of worms can be controlled if every worm can understand the rules, support the rules and follow them.

We can't stop 2 teams from the same club being in one grade some times (due to late minute assistance). So yes the rule needs to be in line with the QC one which they use
ReplyDeleteEr, yeah we can. Write a new rule that says so.

Rep & Premier cricket are totally different to injury. I don't thing the President understands the difference. What does need tidying up is the definition of "injury". Funerals are not injuries unless we want to make them so
ReplyDeleteI'm just reading the words written on a complaint with this one. This particular club President's lack of knowledge on this issue was quite surprising to me actually.
DeleteI agree definition of injury is a worthy aim. But it may be unnecessary.
Right now we allow replacement for injury or illness with no medical proof. That is we do not require a medical certificate.
This makes the replacement essentially uncontested. The bargain is that anyone who asks for an injury replacement concedes the automatic 3 week suspension. There is a cost for 'skiving off'.
This also means anyone who asks for replacement on work commitment or social reasons has just failed to understand the rule properly.
If a player has a funeral or a job commitment or an emergency visit to Grandma suddenly on week 2 then they need only feign illness/injury and they can be replaced. Anyone who 'honestly' claims the real reason as a reason is being naive.
But they don't play next round.

Isn't the pitch rolling issue just a finals issue? I have never heard any comments during the season but it becomes an "issue" when the main game starts! I think it should be common sense....
ReplyDelete25.3 If the team batting first is dismissed in less than 35 overs, the team batting second will be entitled to bat for 35 overs.
ReplyDeleteHi, I came across an issue with regulation 25.3 last season that I don't think is right.
Batting first, we were 8 or 9 wickets down trying to cash in as many runs as possible at the end of a one-day match. We were on a little bit of a roll with a few boundaries flowing.
The bowling team were behind in their over rate, so the umpire correctly called time and let everyone know there was "one over to come" in about the 32nd.
This presented us two batsmen with a predicament; do we try to put on more runs in our last over (the 33rd), or do we protect our wickets so that the opposition don't get to apply reg 25.3 and face a full 35 overs (an additional 2 overs)?
What I'm suggesting is that rule 25.3 shouldn't apply if team batting first is all out AFTER the umpire has called 'last over'. The batting team should be allowed to play their final over with as much risk as they want to put a score on.
Whilst in our situation it was only two extra overs, what if the over rate was abysmal and there were 5 or 6 overs left?
