EXISTING REGULATIONS
Reg 29.3 No free hits on Saturdays
WHAT'S THIS ABOUT?
Making the free hit rule consistent in all three types of limited over games. i.e. introduce free hits for Sat35 One Dayers.
COMMENTS
In the past Sat. 35 over One dayers have been played without Free Hits for no balls because of the arguments that occur with player umpires.
But time has moved on.
Player umpires are still a factor in many matches but the 'no free hit' for a no ball is looking more and more odd and old fashioned. Most limited over competitions (on TV) have had 'em for a while now.
Bowlers are getting used to the idea that it is a good idea to avoid no balls. (There was a time when they seemed to not worry too much about 'em.)
The fact is that player umpires are trusted with LBW, caught behind, counting to 6 balls in an over. There are many rules for the player umpires to cope with. This is just one more.
A bigger problem will be player umpires remembering to do it right.
So the choice is introduce free hits for Sat 35 over One dayers (and put up with whatever player umpires end up doing) OR leave it as it is.
Like the 2020 Notice of Motion this can be presented as a single page of options to be passed or rejected at the AGM.
